Meet Kate Grarock – Adventurer, Environmental Scientist & Storyteller

If there’s one thing Kate Grarock knows, it’s how to embrace the wild. As an environmental scientist, hiker, packrafter, filmmaker, and speaker, she’s dedicated her life to exploring and sharing the beauty of the natural world. Whether she’s trekking solo down the NSW coastline for 700km, spending weeks deep in the Tasmanian wilderness filming ALONE, or setting up camp with her family and adventure-loving pup, Lupo the Lagotto, Kate thrives in the great outdoors.

She’s a firm believer in the power of nature—not just for adventure, but for perspective. One of her most unforgettable moments was deep in the Budawangs, watching a breathtaking sunset break through the clouds on a tough day, reminding her that there’s always joy to be found.

When it comes to hiking style, Kate is all about balance. She loves the grit of a tough solo trek but equally enjoys the belly laughs and deep conversations that only happen when hiking with good company. And when she’s not on the trail? She’s probably fuelling up with a smash burger, chilling to Thelma Plum, or listening to The Living Mountain on audiobook.

Kate’s must-haves? A quality sleeping bag, minimalist trail runners, and—most importantly—coffee. She’s even training herself to drink it black, just to cut down on pack weight! And while she’s survived on eel in the forests of Tasmania, she’s much happier digging into Campers Pantry instead.

If she could adventure with anyone, past or present, it’d be Nan Shepherd—the legendary author who captured the magic of the mountains in a way few others have.
