Fire, a place to gather and tell stories, cook, and or warm ourselves and relax.
One of the much loved parts of camping has become expensive. Pre-packed bags of firewood are often expensive i.e. $15 upwards and in some cases are softwood.
However, a SILKY Bigboy Japanese made saw for tree arborist are a great cross over for camping and any bloke who likes to be the "fire guy".
We purchased the BIGBOY (for the cost of around 5 bags of firewood) for our trip around Australia and have put it to good use for cutting our own firewood. Anyone who has tried to chop through fallen Sheaoak knows how tuff these old hardwood trees are. The BIGBOY destroys thigh thick branches in less than a minute. This wood burns with high heat and sets a good bed of coals ready for the camp oven and a long lasting fire.
These saws cut on the back, or pull stroke which for me makes more sense. This also allows weight from above with the other hand if needed. Also you are more balanced on the the pull stroke and using biceps as apposed to triceps = more grunt. The BIGBOY also has 2 angled positions for the blade to cut on.
We keep ours slipped down next to the handbrake so when nature calls and we pull over we can add some wood to the roof rack.
The SILKY quality is top notch and we recommend you checking them out for your next trip. In Australia they are sold from DRIFTA 4WD.
