Located on the southeast coast of Tasmania, the Three Capes Track is a breathtaking 4-day, 3-night hiking experience covering 46km of rugged coastal scenery. Designed as an easy to moderate hike, this world-class track takes you through towering sea cliffs, pristine forests, and dramatic capes.
The adventure begins at the Port Arthur Historic Site, where a scenic boat ride takes you past the Isle of the Dead. From there, you'll trek across stunning landscapes, finishing at Cape Hauy in Fortescue Bay.
Your journey starts with a boat ride from Port Arthur, a UNESCO-listed site rich in history. As you pass the eerie Isle of the Dead, home to over 1,646 graves, you'll feel the connection between Tasmania's natural beauty and its past.
After disembarking, a gentle 4km walk leads you to Surveyors Cabin, your first night's accommodation. From here, soak in panoramic views of Cape Raoul from the deck.
The real adventure begins! You’ll climb Arthur’s Peak to enjoy stunning views of Crescent Bay and Cape Raoul before trekking through coastal heathlands toward Munro Cabin. This day’s journey (11km, ~5 hours) rewards you with views over Munro Bight and Cape Hauy.
Today is all about Tasmania’s dramatic sea cliffs. Standing at nearly 300 meters high, these sheer rock faces rise from the ocean, offering jaw-dropping views.
A highlight of the trek is walking out to The Blade at Cape Pillar, one of the most photographed locations on the track. Afterward, hike through lush forest and coastal heathland before reaching Retakunna Cabin for the night.
Your final day begins with a climb to Mount Fortescue, providing spectacular views before the descent towards Cape Hauy. Keep an eye out for rock climbers scaling the famous sea stacks, The Candlestick and Totem Pole.
From here, it’s a mostly downhill trek to Fortescue Bay, where you can celebrate with a refreshing swim before catching the transfer bus back to Port Arthur.
